StarHub does away with application forms

Web-based order capture system has scanner and electronic signature pad; service is activated within minutes after payment is received.

Applying for a StarHub telephone line is now fast and hassle-free.

One big plus is that you don't have to deal with any irritating application forms.

Just carry along your identity card to the nearest StarHub dealer and the money for payment, of course.

And iDeal - a real-time, Web-based order capture and service provisioning system - will take care of your application.

The product of a million-dollar collaboration with Singapore Computer Systems (SCS), iDeal provides a fully automated workflow from the point of sale to the activation of the service itself.

It also handles a range of StarHub services including post-paid mobile services, indirect IDD and cable TV.

"At the point of sale, we can do away with physical forms and focus more on serving our customers."
- Mr Philip Tan, StarHub's head of consumer sales and customer experience

Available at all StarHub shops and third-party dealers since early last month, it introduces two new devices - a handheld scanner to read the barcodes on identity cards and an electronic signature pad.

Information on the customer's profile and eligibility is directly obtained by scanning the customer's NRIC, eliminating the need for them to fill in an application form.

Foreigners will have to provide their employment passes or passports instead.

After the information is processed and the order captured on the computer, the customer will be able to review the contract before signing electronically via the signature pad. The service will be activated within minutes after payment is received.

Going paperless certainly has its perks. By receiving and storing customer data electronically, StarHub is able to do away with the time-consuming paper chain of photocopying, faxing and manual tracking of orders.

Customers save both time and effort. They can expect better customer service as well.

Said Mr Philip Tan, StarHub's head of consumer sales and customer experience: 'At the point of sale, we can do away with physical forms and focus more on serving our customers.'
