Waiter jailed for unnatural sex with underage girl
Mohamad Hanes Borhannudin, 25, a waiter, was sentenced to a total of 24 months in jail yesterday.
He was jailed 14 months for unnatural sex with the 15-year-old girl and another 10 months for having sex with the underage girl at a hotel in Geylang on Sept 26 last year.
A district court heard that on Sept 22, they got to know each other through the Alamak chatline website. The girl told Hanes she was 16.
Two days later, he offered to top up her mobile phone card and paid $15 into her pre-paid card.
A day later, the girl told him she was actually 15.
Despite this, he told her he wanted to have sex with her but she initially declined. He was persistent and she agreed to meet him at an MRT station.
They met on Sept 26 and he took her to the Geylang hotel where he had anal sex and consensual sex with her.
After that tryst, he kept calling her. She finally stopped answering his calls.
He managed to get through at least once over the next few days. He told her he had topped up her pre-paid card by another $15 and wanted to meet for sex but she refused.
On Oct 6, he called again and she answered, not realising it was him.
He told her to meet him for a chat but she refused. He later said he would call her at home. She immediately unplugged her telephone line.
As she was afraid he might call again, she decided to report the matter to the police on Oct 7.
Hanes has previous convictions for theft, criminal breach of trust and unnatural sex with a male.
Pleading for a light sentence, he said he was helping his family financially.
District Judge Kow Keng Siong noted the wide age disparity of almost 10 years, that he had two previous sex-related offences, and that he repeatedly tried to get the underage girl to have more sex with him.
Hanes could have been jailed up to 10 years for unnatural sex. For having sex with a girl under 16, he could have been jailed up to five years and fined up to $10,000.
